Raspberries, Chocolate, Protein, Fiber, and Deliciousness? Sounding good so far? Yes I thought so.
When I returned from my run the other morning I was starved, nothing unusual I know, but I couldn’t wait to make a smoothie! You could say I am kind of a smoothie addict! A good kind of addiction however. I love to put a lot of good stuff in my smoothies. Some may think they sound more like a smoothie mess….but I dare you to try this one or this one. They’re not a mess….but a delicious and healthy concoction that will keep you satisfied for hours. All the way to lunch time I promise!
I have no idea where I saw this recipe…somewhere on Pinterest probably. Since I was too hungry and impatient to look for the recipe, I started creating my own version with what I had on hand. It’s a winner folks! Seriously, what’s not to love! Raspberries, avocado, banana, cocoa, chia, date, salt and milk? Seriously, can we talk about how good this smoothie is with a tad of dusted cocoa on top?
Raspberry and chocolate are one of those combinations that seem like they were meant to be. Kind of like blueberries and chocolate. The sweet tartness of the berries compliments the sweetness in chocolate so well.
I love smoothies and if cocoa and raspberries don’t get your attention, the sea salt with the chocolate may? I think cocoa, salt and raspberries belong in everything! Adding a pinch of salt not only brings the entire smoothie to life, but it’s also a very important mineral your body needs daily.
The best part, berries and cocoa are both high on the anti-inflammatory list and if you’re a runner, you obviously know how important it is to eat these foods. The banana and the avocado give this smoothie a thicker consistency all the while bringing long-lasting energy and healthy nutrients.
For my protein I use Shaklee Life Shake because it has 24 grams of plant based protein, it is Non GMO and has no artificial ingredients of any kind. It’s also low glycemic! For this smoothie I used the chocolate, but it comes in several different flavors and also a Non-Soy Vegan Option. I love that is also contains extra Leucine to help preserve lean muscle! Definitely important as an aging runner and trust me, I am not getting any younger. But that’s not all – The Shaklee Life Shake contains a powerful blend of pre-biotics and one billion CFU of patented probiotics and Omega-3’s.
Friends, this smoothie is a total winner. I think you know what to do next. Have fun making this smoothie.
