Hi! You get to learn something new about me today! I LOVE NUT BUTTER! Heck, what runner doesn’t right? A spoonful of nut butter is such a great source of energy and protein, and it’s a perfect on-the-go snack for any runner who is rushed to get out the door to RUN. Does this sound like you…..
I love everything about Nut Butter espeically my home made energizing bites, bars, and smoothies with nuts or nut butter, but sometimes a quick spoonful of nut butter is exactly what I need! It does the trick every time! I am kind of nut butter addict…sort of anyhow.
These days you can find a huge variety of mouthwatering and tempting options! Look what my friend found the other day shopping in one of our favorite coops. Sprouted Nut Butter. Yes, I have made my own sprouted Nut Butter with my sprouted (crispy) nuts, but sometimes it’s just so fun to try new ones too! These are soooo yummy!
You can also find anything from Organic Peanut Butter, Chocolate Hazelnut, to Creamy Cashew butter at your local supermarket, so the struggle of picking just one kind of nut butter is, as you see, impossible for me! I love them all. Why not try it for to fuel your next run? Or for a mid-day snack or part of a meal. I love it just as much after a run added to my smoothies. It’s a fantastic way to add more protein and richness to your post-workout meal.
Want to discover some of my other favorite ways to fuel with Nut Butter and my on-the-go combinations? Thought so.
- Banana and Nut Butter Sammies: This is truly one of my all time faves! It’s my go to pre-workout fuel and it’s easy peasy too! Simply take a banana and slice it lengthwise, choose your favorite nut butter (I love almond), and spread it on both halves. Top with a sprinkle of gluten free granola, a little honey, a few coconut flakes, or even my personal favorite, hemp seeds, for added protein. Put both halves together and bite right in. I don’t even miss the toast…but take a look at my second most popular way to fuel even longer runs!
- Almond Butter and Honey (or Jam) Toast: Seriously nothing new here I know, but hey this outa be on your list of an anytime breakfast, lunch, snack, or anytime dish. Choose your favorite bread, toast it, and spread on the nut butter and honey (my choice) or jam (my husband’s choice) sweetened with fruit juice, not sugar of course! I love to garnish my toast with slices of banana and a few chia seeds, or if you’re a chocolate fan like me, cacao nibs. To die for!
- Nut Butter Stuffed Dates: If you are a fan of the sweet and ooey-gooey taste of dates, then you are sure to love them paired with nut butter. Take 3 or 4 pitted dates, slice them lengthwise, and stuff with one spoonful of nut butter. The rich and creamy nut butter balances out the sweetness of the dates and makes a great snack when you’re feeling fatigued and need an energy boost. These are so much more tasty than Gu, which I do use on occasion, but these are better, trust me on this one.
- Creamy Breakfast Oatmeal: This past Sunday I made Rob some yummy oatmeal porridge for Father’s Day. It’s one of his faves! We loaded it up with all kinds of fresh berries and a spoonful of nut butter. I had almond and he had peanut butter. If you’re already eating oats for breakfast and you’ve not added nut butter yet, then you’re missing out. This small addition makes a big difference by giving your bowl of oats a bold flavor and mouthwatering consistency. This happens to my husband’s favorite pre-run, post-run and Sunday morning Breakfast! Seriously, if he didn’t love his smoothies so much, he’d probably eat this every morning.
I could go on and on for hours, but than I’d probably end up boring you, or losing your captured attention, and I certainly don’t want that to happen! If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ll probably discover more tempting ways to use nut butter.
Remember, you aren’t limited to peanut or almond butter. Get creative and try out pumpkin seed butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter next time. One tastes better than the next and trying out new combinations will surely surprise you!
