“What is One Piece of Advice for Life?” Be Grateful. Be Thankful. Every year as I get older I realize how grateful I am not only to be running injury free, but to be still learning something new almost every day about running and health! For that I am grateful! I am thankful.
These days, it’s not about getting another PR. After all, I am in my late 50’s so those days are most likely behind me. I can still shoot for personal bests in my age group but more importantly, enjoy the journey. I do my best to not sweat the small stuff.
To be perfectly honest, I am grateful to get to the start line these days. I remember my running days in my 40’s when qualifying for Boston was my top priority. I was more nervous and to be honest, couldn’t wait for the race to start. These days, I am much more relaxed and I just want to have fun. My ego is no longer tied up to the finish time. Now, If I don’t have a good workout or race, I don’t let it get me down. Thanks to Coach MK, I have learned, “it’s not always about the running”.
Even at the age of almost 57, I am still learning. In fact, I feel a bit guilty if I am not improving or getting stronger every day. Personally I consider myself winning at life since I am running pain-free. I honestly believe we can continue to grow and learn a little more about running and health each and every day. I enjoyed my time under Coach MK’s wing and although I am not being coached presently, her website is chock full of great stuff.
In fact, if you look at what I was doing in my 20’s as a runner, verses what I do now, it’s drastically different. Running is such a fun journey and I happy to be still having FUN! If I miss a run or workout, it’s not the end of the world. In fact, my friend Sarah took her run class snow-shoeing since the roads are a bit dicy to run on. We accomplished three things…
- we got our heart rates up
- we had fun
- and we didn’t break any limbs doing so☺️.
THANKS SARAH!
