As I mentioned in my last post, it was hard to leave the Mull of Galloway. The scenery was breathtaking and most importantly, our Air B&B was so inviting.
If the views outside our place wasn’t enough to make us smile….or tear up.…the decor inside incredibly inviting. We were greeted with homemade shortbread too! Yes, authentic melt in your mouth buttery shortbread. We felt right at home immediately.
It was such a treat to spend time with the Jim our host and hear fascinating stories about my husband and his sister’s ancestors.
Oh and I forgot to mention, I even got to watch this live while most of my friends across the pond were sleeping. It was so COOL!
But once again, we packed our bags for a 2 plus hour drive to Glasgow, which is where our trip actually started. Nearly two weeks had past since we landed in Glasgow and as we slowly made our way down to the Mull-of-Galloway, I slowly recovered from running a very wet & windy Lochness Marathon. Thankfully as I mentioned on FB, the weather did improve but it was definitley the worst 2 hours I had ever experienced at the start of a marathon. I was sooooo COLD!
I was glad to be done and somewhat disappointed, not in my finish time considering all the variables I had to over come, but bummed I cramped. Oh well….there will be another marathon…maybe even another Lochness with Rob running by my side!
Needless to say, we packed up our bags and headed on our way to the big city of Glasgow. We ended up stopping for brunch at a cute Bistro along the way and of course they had amazing scones?. Buttery and delicious!
We had such a good time and of course took our time chatting with the staff, locals who were enjoying sharing more stories with us about Scotland, and of course, we had a second scone?.
Unfortunately it was raining (no surprise there right?) so we didn’t tour the gardens outside the Potting Shed Bistro but we sure had plenty of fun inside! Maybe we will have better luck next time, both here and at my next marathon! The gardens looked gorgeous….if only it wasn’t raining!
We truly are looking forward to more Scotland Adventures! I am truly blessed since I have one of the most supportive husbands ever! We are both hoping I get into the lottery for the 2021 London Marathon. Fingers crossed! And since the Mull-of-Galloway is only 293 miles from London, we will be making the trek back to Scotland too.
We arrived out side the city of Glasgow about 4 O’clock in the afternoon. Once we got settled into our Air B&B, we ventured out to find a great little Italian restaurant recommended by a local we ran into near our place. Of course she gave us “simple directions”. “A short 5 minute walk” she says.
HaHa….Maybe if you’re from here and you knew where you were going?. We walked and walked trying out best to figure out her directions, but none-the-less, no luck. We were wet, cold, and hungry and decided to head back to where we started and find dinner closer to our place!
So after about 30 minutes of walking in the pouring rain, we ended up at a different Italian Restaurant near our Air B&B. We hung up our wet coats, hats, and gloves on the two tables next to us and trust me, it felt so good to dry off and get warm. Thankfully it wasn’t busy and the staff was more then accommodating. I think they felt sorry for us tourists. We stuck out like sore thumbs?.
The next morning we headed into Glasgow after a delicious breakfast at a TOP RATED diner in all of Scotland. The Americanos were amazing! Another thing the Scots do well is make amazing coffee!
I also discovered runny eggs are just as tasty in Scotland as they are back home…..but I did miss my avocado toast?.
Shopping in Glasgow was a way different experience then my previous shopping excursions on our trip. I much prefer the little boutiques verses the big store shopping that you find in the city. It was very AMERICANIZED in Glasgow central but we still had fun.
The street entertainment was so COOL! These guys were so good.
We stumbled upon a great place for mid afternoon tea. We walked for hours and hours so a quick stop for tea was very welcomed.
Next we walked some more…..and trust me, we were all done walking by the time we found our restaurant across the bridge. The Two Fat Ladies didn’t disappoint!
It was the perfect spot to celebrate our last meal in Scotland.
Two Fat Ladies is quaintly decorated, the food is incredible, and the service outstanding.
I lost track on how many wait staff made sure we were well taken care of. And by the way, do save room for desert!
The next morning we packed up for the final time to head home. Unfortunately the trip home didn’t come without a glitch.
We had a long delay in Amsterdam but we made the best of the situation and did some shopping and had a snack before we got on the plane about 5 pm. I hadn’t eaten since last night so I was starved! It was a long day and an unplanned intermittent fasting day?.
WE made it home…a day later with no sleep on the plane so I was SOOOO tired. Not sure how many hours we were awake, but truly the jet lag was REAL.
We were home safe and as tired as I was, a run the next morning felt good. I wish I could say I slept in, but my body clock was totally messed up. It took a while to get back in the swing of things but if you’ve traveled internationally, you can probably relate.
It was good to be back on my home turf! As the old saying goes…“Home Sweet Home”
How many days do you take off before you run again after a marathon?
Do you like to run different courses? Or do you run the same marathon year after year?
Since getting married I much prefer traveling the world as a marathon tourist! It is a great way to see this small world we live in❤️️.
When is your next run and where? Any top marathons you recommend?
