This peachy creamy smoothie will be a highlight of your summer I promise!! Peaches are one of summer’s best gifts, and a fresh peach smoothie is the cream of the crop.
There is something about summer and peaches that go together like chocolate and sea salt. Some of my most favorite memories are biting into the first peach of the season and remembering how the sweet juices would run down my hand.
Yes I know it’s only mid May and it’s a bit early for peach season but my company recently released their new seasonal flavor ~ Summer Peach Life Shake. I didn’t waste any time to whip myself up the most delicious and refreshing smoothie that was absolutely perfect on a this very warm spring day.
SHOULD I USE FRESH OR FROZEN PEACHES? PEEL OR NOT TO PEEL?
For this smoothie I used frozen peaches but fresh works too. Last summer when I had an abundance of peaches on hand I used fresh. During peach season, I’ll typically buy a bunch of peaches, peel and slice them, then freeze them before transferring them to an airtight container for storing. Since I have a VitaMix, my blender will blend them up easily. If you know your blender is going to struggle, try dicing the peaches before tossing them into the blender. If you’re using frozen sliced peaches, just let them thaw a bit, then use a paring knife to cut them into smaller pieces.
Peel or not to peel. Trust me the peach fuzz won’t hurt you nor will it make your shake taste much different. I don’t bother peeling my them but I also purchase organic peaches. Another thought – if using a conventional peach rather than organic, it’s important to first wash them and then peel them to remove any pesticide residue. But again, that’s personal preference.
Ready for me to blow your mind? Did you know that nectarines are basically just non-fuzzy peaches? It’s true! So if you don’t like dealing with peach peels, but don’t mind fruit peels, pick up some nectarines and use those instead!
WHAT IS THE BEST LIQUID TO PUT IN A SMOOTHIE?
There is honestly not one that is better than the other. I change up my liquid in my smoothies all the time. In this smoothie I am using unsweetened almond milk but a little splash of freshly squeezed OJ would be great or try coconut milk. Most often I use whatever I have in my fridge. I never use too much liquid becuase I like my smoothies thick, but again that’s a personal preference.
WHAT PAIRS WITH PEACHES?
The better questions is what doesn’t pair with them? So far I have combined peaches with strawberries, & bananas, but to be honest, any summer berry or even melons would be delicious. My rule of thumb, use whatever fruit you have on hand but balance them out with veggies, ok!
Since I run early mornings, I run fasted because I don’t need fuel any run under 20 miles. Trust me, I am very hungry after a longer run and most often all I can think is my post run smoothie. I think this one will be on repeat most of the summer!
I promise you this smoothie is sure to hit the spot! It is perfect anytime of the day but most definitley after a run. We’ve been enjoying a stretch of beautiful warm spring days here in MN and it’s amazing! I can’t remember a spring when the trees have been this stunning for this long. Most often we have wind and rain and the blossoms are done. Not this year!
It was the perfect time to bump up my miles again. After about 2 months of cutting back on my miles, I finally felt good enough to stretch out my long run Friday to a double digit run. It was my first one since mid February and guess what, it happened to fall on my 59th birthday. 5.9 miles times two felt awesome!
