Discover the secret to making the creamiest hummus at home in just 5 minutes, using only basic pantry ingredients!
My three tips are….Drum Roll 🥰
- Use white cannelloni beans and chickpeas
- Use chickpea water verses olive oil & water
- Use the creamiest tahini you can find
I love this hummus for snacking on with veggies, protein crisps, slathering it on sourdough bread or bagels. It turns out so creamy every time and is extra flavorful.
I’m a firm believer in homemade hummus. First off I’d be lying if I said I have never purchased a tub or individual serving packs for convenience or for traveling. But seriously friends, store bought vs homemade, no comparison.
Since this hummus just takes minutes to whirl up with a food processor or high speed blender, you have no excuse but to try this recipe NOW. Or as soon as you pull out all the ingredients which you mostly likely have in your pantry.
What you need:
- chickpeas and it’s liquid~aquafaba
- Cannelloni beans
- creamy tahini
- cumin
- garlic
- lemon juice
- flaky sea salt
- paprika (optional)
Tip #1 use both cannelloni beans and chickpeas!
I have made both white bean hummus and this one, but trust when I tell you this….using both types of beans is a game changer. Can’t wait for you to try this!
Easy Steps to Make the Creamiest Hummus:
- Drain one 13 oz jar Chickpeas reserving liquid
- Drain one 13 oz jar of white cannelloni beans ~ used 1/2 the jar and refrigerate the remainder
- Add both beans, plus the chickpea liquid to food processor
- Use a hefty amount of the creamiest tahini butter you can find ~ I used this one
- Blend till creamy
- Place on plate and top with paprika and flaky sea salt
Tip #3 is use the CREAMIEST tahini butter you can find! (don’t you worry, I didn’t forget about tip #2 😉)
I’m not a fan of coarse hummus, and very often I find that when commercially-produced, it is bland and lacking in tahini. And that is the key – tahini! This sesame seed paste is everything, so don’t be skimping on it.
Great hummus needs a decent amount of CREAMY tahini. Not just a tablespoon or two, but lots. It’s the difference between cheap supermarket hummus and the really good stuff you get at my house 😉.
The secret to Creamy Hummus tip #2
I’ve made hummus a few times, but once I started using the water from the beans instead of tossing it, I am determined to never waste chickpea liquid again. Having some starch in it makes hummus even creamier.
To serve, place on your favorite platter or bowl, garnish with paprika for color, and flaky sea salt. I love serving this with fresh veggies and these yummy protein sea salt snack crisps. They’re a healthier alternative to a pita or tortilla chip.

The Creamiest Hummus
INGREDIENTS:
- 13 ounce jar chickpeas drained ~ reserve liquid
- Liquid from your jar of chickpeas above ~ aquafaba
- 1/2 jar white cannelloni beans
- 8 tablespoon creamy tahini or heaping 1/3 to 1/2 cup
- heaping teaspoon cumin
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 1 lemon juiced
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt (plus extra if desired)
- paprika for garnish (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Place the drained chickpeas, white beans, aquafaba, tahini, cumin, garlic, & lemon juice into a food processor or blender, and blend for 2-3 minutes, until smooth. If necessary, add more aquafaba if needed to loosen the hummus. I didn’t need more.
